Behavioral health services

A practice with one quiet aim

We offer integrated behavioral health care: psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, couples and family work, and specialty programs. Care is available in person and through secure telehealth, where clinically appropriate.

01

Couples & Family Care

Relational care at Piedmont Wellness is guided by the understanding that the people in a relationship often arrive with different histories, different tolerances, and different hopes for what therapy might do. Sessions move at a pace that allows each person to feel heard before the work of shared understanding begins. Clinicians trained in couples and family modalities help partners and family members develop new patterns of communication that hold up outside the therapy room.

Relationships are part of behavioral health. Our couples and family clinicians are trained in evidence-based systemic and relational modalities, and care is delivered with the same evidence base as our individual treatment.

  • Couples therapy (Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method-informed)
  • Family therapy for adults and adult-child family units
  • Parent guidance for adults navigating parenting under stress
02

Psychotherapy

Individual therapy is the practice's deepest commitment. Sessions are held with a licensed therapist who will be consistent across your care, allowing the conversation to build on itself over time rather than starting fresh. Whether the presenting concern involves anxiety, depression, trauma, or a quieter sense that something has shifted, therapy here is conducted with patience, clinical skill, and a genuine interest in the person sitting across the room.

Our therapists are independently licensed (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LPC, PsyD, or PhD) and matched to your care based on your goals and the modalities best suited to them. Sessions are typically scheduled weekly or biweekly to start.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills
  • Psychodynamic and supportive psychotherapy
  • Trauma-focused care
  • Perinatal and postpartum-specific therapy

Psychiatry & Medication Management

Psychiatric care at Piedmont Wellness begins with a thorough diagnostic evaluation that gives the clinician time to understand a patient's full history rather than a condensed summary of symptoms. Medication management, when it is part of the plan, is introduced thoughtfully and revisited at each follow-up with careful attention to how a patient is actually experiencing it. Psychiatry here is designed to work alongside therapy, not in a separate lane from it.

Our psychiatric care is delivered by physicians who completed an MD or DO, a four-year residency in psychiatry, and who hold board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Visits are scheduled at the frequency your care requires.

  • Diagnostic psychiatric evaluation
  • Ongoing psychiatric medication management
  • Coordination with primary care & specialty providers
  • Care for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, perinatal mental health, and major life transitions
  • Telehealth or in-person at your preference
04

Specialty Care

Piedmont Wellness has developed focused programming for adults navigating conditions and life circumstances that benefit from a more structured clinical approach. These specialty areas bring together therapeutic and, where appropriate, psychiatric expertise around a shared clinical framework, so that patients facing particular challenges receive care that has been purposefully designed rather than improvised.

Some conditions benefit from a clinician with focused training. Our specialty programs are organized around the diagnostic categories that present most often in adult outpatient behavioral health, staffed by clinicians with additional training in each area.

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Workplace burnout
  • Chronic medical conditions co-occurring with mental health

Telehealth

Secure video appointments make it possible for adults across Virginia to access the same quality of care available in our offices, without the drive. Telehealth sessions are conducted on a HIPAA-compliant platform and feel, in practice, close to an in-person visit: same clinician, same session length, same unhurried atmosphere. Patients who split time across the state or who simply prefer the convenience of home can receive ongoing therapy, psychiatric follow-up, or specialty care via telehealth.

Where clinically appropriate, both psychiatric care and psychotherapy are available through HIPAA-compliant telehealth. The same clinicians, the same care — delivered to wherever you can find a quiet, private space within your state of residence.

  • Telepsychiatry medication management
  • Teletherapy for psychotherapy and couples care
  • Secure, HIPAA-compliant platform
  • Equal-fee, in-network billing where your plan permits

Care begins with a conversation.

Most new patients are scheduled within 7–10 business days.
